I just purchased Isky severe duty roller lifters that have .875 diameter bodies. I'm not positive that they'll fit, but I'm hoping they will, or the block can be machined to fit if need be ;) .
Re: stock lifter diameter in 400sbc ? (SmokedTires)
.842" is the standard Chevy lifter diameter. .874" is a Ford diameter lifter, although alot of Chevy guys hone and index the lifter bores to accomodate the larger lifter. .903" is Mopar lifter diameter and some guys(mostly racers) even hone/index the lofter bores to this size. The larger diameter lifter allows you to run a more intense cam lobe profile without the lifter body or edge contacting the lobe.
I had my Dart rocket block lifter bores honed for the larger Ford diamater lifters and indexed. You'll probably need to find a 'racing engine' oriented machine shop to perform this mod, because not all general purpose machine shops will have the mahcnines needed to properly index the lifter bores - at least that's been my experience. While you're getting the lifter bores honed, an option is to have them bronze bushed, but for a street engine I wouldn't do it.
Olds uses a .921" diameter lifter but that isn't as popular as the others.
 Thanks Monty, that's what I was hoping for :yesnod: . FWIW, I've been using your 427-650NA HP recipe for the basics of building my next engine, only destroking to the 377 instead of stroking ;) .
