I have run aluminum flywheels in all my big block cars. My '67 has one in it right now and it works great.
When I bought the car it had a 390hp, 427 with the stock flywheel. I replaced it with an aluminum one and the difference was immediately noticable. It rev'd much quicker and the tire spin was much easier to control.
