Hi guys, I'm planning on rebuilding this winter and I need to atleast change my pistons and rings(JE/SRP I'm thinking). I'm really doing this on a budget so I want to use the same rods and I was thinking of using the same crank and making a 355 but I was looking at a 383 Scat 9000 crank for only a few hundred. $200 for the extra torque a 383 brings seems worth it on the $/hp scale.
I guess my question is how much horsepower would this setup be able to take. I figure with my nitrous right now I'm at around 500hp give or take some, but I'm worried about room for expansion.
I don't have any experience with Scat cranks. I do know that 3.750 and 3.875 cranks are the best thing you can do to a 4.00 bore SBC. Look up stroker cranks on the web search line. I would at least go to some kind of forged crank whether it's 5140 or 4340 and only buy an internally ballanced kit.
I've seen forged kits - crank, 6 inch rods, piston, rings, bearings for about $1000 Higher end kits balanced from Speedomotive are $1500 and up. Then all you have to do is have the block bored, blue printed, and cam bearings installed.
Your 150 NOS is just on the edge of playing with fire. So I would start to use upgraded parts so you don't get burned.
