Not another smog delete thread
Let me clarify. Must I achieve California smog standards with 35 year old smog design or are there better ways? Can I pass smog test at the exhaust tip with a crate motor without including all the ancient smog systems? If I do a simple rebuild, are there any improvements I can make along the way? What do I have to keep, what can I upgrade? Are there ways to make the improvements and get around visual inspection?
My point is that I don't want to cripple my smog systems; I want to modernize and improve them.
So maybe an alternative way to ask is to say "How can I modernize smog so my '88 corvette is street legal and performs better than my '22 [brand excluded to avoid silly rabbit holes...]?"
BTW, I'm considering rebuild vs crate but I haven't a clue what to do about this smog issue
Id leave it be...maybe take the pump, accessories off, polish them, brackets etc.
my 67 is supposed to have a smog pump on it. No they dont ck but if they wanted to they could give me a real issue
CHP is a stickler for stuff like that. Modern cats work much better than the old pellet type. Make sure they have the Ca EO # stamped on them they check.
you could pass smog/inspection with a new crate engine that is CARB certified and includes modern computer and CATS (search E-ROD LS3 ) FYI if you weren't aware of that, but its pricey
