Default World product/ or Dart engine prep?

Okay I am in the looks for a World or Dart block, looking for one with a 4.125 bore with the standard 350 main. Anyways for the first time my local shop quotes me 1,941.00 for a WP Race block "splayed billit 4 bolt mains". Anyways the came out cheaper than even Summit "the standard in which I compare all with". But here's the catch. The guy said I NEED to have it heated so it distorts so then they machine everything and it will be much more accurate after their work,.price goes up to 2,600 bucks... kinda hurt my budget since the difference in price was to help towards the purchase of a eagle rotating assem. So perhaps I will have to wait another couple months. Anyways who has purchased a "race prepped block" and did you do the "need to do" prep work to make it good to install? arent Dart or World Products already machined and prepped in those fashons?

Can't answer your question , but I have recently been researching a 434 c.i. shortblock and found Ohio Crankshaft has the best deal so far. $3995. will get you a assembled, splayed, balanced 434 shortblock (Motown block). Call (800) 333-7113 or http://www.OhioCrank.com
Just as a thought... as I"ve been researching I keep coming back to the thought "why stop at 434 ci" for almost identical dollars most aftermarket outfits such as Ohio Crank or World Products will sell you a 540-555 ci BB shortblock for the same price as a 421-434 SB shortblock. Who couldn't use the extra 100+ c.i. and extra 200-300 HP potential. :steering:

According to the engine shop doing my work, they told me that they'll: deburr the block, chase all the threads, hone the lifter bores to fit if needed, the bores require honing to finish size, and trimming the decks so they're even & true. :)

Afterwards they hot tank the block to clean it which I was told is the best time to paint it while the block is still hot.

I am currently using a tall deck Dart Iron Eagle/Rocket Block. Although it is "fully machined", I still will had to hone the cylinder bores to fit my pistons, align hone the mains, hone the lifter bores and deck the block to achieve the desired deck height. I also deburred and radiused the entire block, removed all the casting flash from the lifter valley and timing face, as well as smoothed and cleaned up all the oil drain holes and passages and chased/cleaned all the threaded holes.

Deen if your going dragster forget all about small blocks. You can make 1000 hp 500+ ci BBC N/A without to much problem. When we were out there running everybody in super eliminator (7.90 sec.) had 500+ ci. Even some mountian 700's The beauty is they last for years because your throttle stopping them to slow down to 7.90. Some of them even take off at just over idle to be easy on parts and then hit it a couple of hundred feet down the track and still come screaming through at over 170 mph

Then for quick 16 bracket events have some fun and run them wide open all the way down.

Yes I have seen some Alky supercharged 400 sbc's. but they are a high maint. item

George, I agree with you 100%. Trouble is I really don't know WHAT I'm doing this year. After 10 years it's "new car time" and I may keep the Vette for another year or two as I can't buy a new car and build a dragster at the same time... plus I have TWO daughters in college next year. I was toying with the idea of selling my blower/heads/carb and building a strip-only engine for the Corvette. I want to be able to run 10's NA. Deen
