Anyone use the 350/350 replacement cam from Comp? What's your opinion? What's the specs on this cam? Is this about the largest cam I can use w/o changing alot of other stuff? (converter & such).
I ran the Chevy 151 in a 327 once, and it was a decent grind. Very crisp and smooth off idle. Comp Cams likes 110 degrees LC for almost all of their grinds. It will make slightly more midrange torque than the factory 114 LC,but will not idle as smooth.
He's talking about the 3862346 cam that started life in the '69 L-46 (350 CID/350HP) and carried through to the L-82 option from the later C3 era. It is often called the "L-82 cam".
Good stick - basically a development of the 151 that worked so well in the shorter stroke 327. The 962 has slightly longer duration, slightly more lift, and slightly retarded inlet and exhaust events. Centerlines are 114/114 versus 110/118 for the 151, but both lobe phasings yield the same 114 lobe center angle.
On the same engine the 962 will make a bit more top end power in trade for a bit of low end torque compared to the 151.
IMO 110 LCAs are too narrow for engines with manifolds. That's why the OEM SHP cams have less overlap. They were developed with the OEM manifolds, and with manifolds there are no useable wave dynamics in the exhaust so excess overlap just hurts the torque curve - especially on the bottom end.
