I've always rebuilt my motors where I would remove the piston/rod assembly and mark its number on the piston for re-assembly. Now that I'm putting a new motor together, I forget how the RODS pair up on the crankshaft? example A or B or C???? TIA :chevy
I am not sure I understand, but I will give it a shot.
A, B and D are the same?
If you look at the block, the number 1 and 2 cylinder bores are shifted. they are not straight across. this will tell you what rod goes forward of the other.
Edit: looking at some block pics on my drive, I see the drivers side is the forward shifted bores, so you would be using the C example.
C C C C.
That is if your example picture is looking top down.
just remember that the side of the rod bearing bore that is champered goes towards the crank arm because you need the clearence to clear the radius on the crank journal. :chevy
Thanks guys! I actually went out in my yard after posting and looked at an old 350 engine I have and the answer is "A"...which confirms what Clem stated.... :hurray:
Got my pistons in and now the short block goes back in the car.
