400+ hp from a L-82

400+ hp from a L-82
We have a L-82 in our 1980 vette and want to get 400 plus hp out of it. How would i get this kind of hp out of this engine? bigger cam? true dual exhaust defenintly but what do you guys think?

I don't think your going to get another 170hp out of that engine with it still resembling anything like what you have now. Its entirely possible to get 400hp with a cam, heads, exhaust, better intake and perhaps more compression, but you see there's little left of the original L82.
You might want to consider a crate motor and keep your L82 as is. The fastburn 385 might be your ticket.

Like Moortym said, it's entirely possible. The main questions are what kind of 400 hp do you want/need and what are you prepared to do in order to get it? Are emission laws an issue for you? With the right pieces, 400 gross streetable hp is very doable with a 350. Cam, heads, and exhaust will provide the largest increases. Once you've done those, intake and ignition mods will have a greater effect on power than they would on an otherwise stock engine. If we're talking about a complete rebuild, definitely consider stroking it to a 383. Besides the extra cubes making more power, unlike most other power increasing mods, it'll make that extra power throughout the powerband so you can feel it without having to wind the **** out of it.
