See my sig for engine specs. I've been running a 100 shot with no problems for over a year now. I just stepped up to the 125 jets, (fresh engine) gave it a squirt down the road and the difference was amazing. I know, I'm officially addicted. My question is; think it's ok? No change in timing or anything contemplated. Don't wanna hole a piston or throw a rod. I know once you reach 150 the rules change, just hoping to stay with the 125 but only if you folks think it is safe. Thanks... :steering:

Re: safe NOS shot? (MasterDave)
There is not much difference between a 100 and 125 shot. I would take out a few ( should be all 8) plugs and look at them. If you are not picking up any signs of detonation you are o.k.
Are you pulling any timing out of the motor ?, pump gas ? enough gas / fuel pump / pressure?

Detonation and leaning out KILLS nitrous motors.
I know 25 extra shot doesn't seem like much, but the engine responded to it nicely and the difference was amazing. Had me saying "Holy Crap" more than once. No sounds/signs of detonation. Using pump gas. Have an Edl hi-flow fuel pump which flows well, 7-9 psi WOT. Did not pull any timing out of it either, NOS said it wasn't required. I use Autolite 26 plugs. I installed new plugs yesterday and will do a couple bursts and check them. The old plugs, which were installed in the previous engine were black and wet but not fouled. Now they are whiter and wet with just a hint of brown on the tips. Two plugs though #4 and #6 looked dry and white. #1, 2 & 8 didn't have the black all burned off them yet. Hard to tell. Thanks guys.....Me likey Nitrous....just don't wanna get greedy and blow the hood off.

Re: safe NOS shot? (542C2)
Judging from the condition of your plugs it sounds like the 125 tune is a little leaner, that is why it "feels" like more than a 25 hp gain. I would not go any more than a 150 shot max, feeding a healthy small block and NOS off the pump.
Sounds like you might be ready for a DynoJet run or two. If you are interested to see how much it makes, let me know.
Steve
I know, I know. I really want to dyno it but I've heard horror stories of how hard dyno's are on engines. I'm confessing here though that I am pretty ignorant about what is involved and what gets accomplished to dyno-tune an engine. Make me feel good Steve......

Re: safe NOS shot? (QuickVet)
NOS needs a colder plug, how much depends on how much NOS you are going to run. Generaly a 100 shot on a pump gas street motor does not require a plug change. If your street motor is relatively high compression and is on the verge of detonation, a 100 shot may need a little timing pulled out and /or a plug change
NOS is not free HP, educate your self on it before you throw it on, push the button, and take your chances.
I have never heard any horror stories about dynos. Chassis dynos are the ultimate way to find out what kind of power your engine/drivetrain makes.
The biggest downside for most people is the cost of using a chassis dyno. Because shops charge per run most people are quite apprehensive to take their car there.
