Default decision time. Need your thoughts.

I picked up a set of Speed Pro Moly piston rings. But I am concerned if I should go for some stainless steel top rings. I wanted them, but the guy with summit was kinda short. I said I thought that Childs and Albert sold a set with stainless top rings but he says they don't sell those any more. didn't make any suggestions, So I just went ahead and got the Ductile Iron boys. I know that the Ductile Iron ones with Moly are over twice as strong as the cast rings, and stainless are about 2 times stronger than that ductile ones. Basically will the ductiles hold up for what I want (around 1000 hp) or should I go for the stainless?

You know, I really don't have an informed answer as to what the moly rings can handle. However my belief is that, for the relatively small cost difference on a part that's that critical, what's the downside to going w/ the best part available? Then you never have to wonder if you should have stepped up. This is, of course, assuming that the stainless rings would seal at least as well as the molys.

I'm using a C&A stainless top ring, but a second and oil ring from a SpeedPro moly file fit set. Jeff at Fast Times was nice enough to break two sets of rings to get me what I wanted without having to buy two ring sets. The stainless top ring is better suited for the increased combustion temps found in forced induction applications, but if you're just gonna be using it on the street, you're not going to be under high boost for any sustained period of time.

The ductile iron moly rings Speedpro uses are applicable for a forced induction application as well, it is a stonger ring than cast moly rings found is other brands. They are commonly used on blown and nitrous motors. I would lose any sleep over it. If it had come down to putting my motor together with the Speedpro moly rings, I would have done so without a second thought.
