Default "It lives"

I finally started my freshened (re cammed) motor after somewhat depressing dyno results (If we "raced dynos" I would be SCREWED) it turns out the dyno I was on is overly conservative. I also stepped up and bought a new MSD distributor with dual pickups, a set of Taylor spiro pro wires and I had to buy a new Autometer tach (goodbye tach drive). Timing the motor made quite a difference in as much as the timing mark doesn`t bounce around the way it did with my trusty factory transistorized distributor. The only problem (so far) is the brackets that hold the tach in are too short (or my dash is too thin) but I will figure something out. ...redvetracr

I must have missed you adventures at the dyno. What did you end up making?

(Remember, I am the guy that races dynos.)

What no numbers to share  . A bad dyno run is good once in awhile, keeps us on our toes to keep looking for the next step ;) .

Don't worry about dyno numbers. Look for improvements on it. There are tons of variables that can be "manipulated" to create good dyno numbers. Everyone I know is still laughing at that 911 HP big block on the front of Car Craft.

Same goes for flowbenches. The one I use is known to be conservative. Even though it is calibrated the same and all, they have literally taken a head that was just flowed on it, drove across town and flowed it on an identical bench and seen up to a 8-10% increase in flow!

Yet the engine dyno at the main shop I use is almost dead on identical to a shop down the street. Same deal, dyno'd engine, took it down the street and dyno'd it within 3 hours and it made exactly 2 hp different! That's close!!

I could have kept "racing" mine the other day, but I would soon have moved the engine way past the parameters I wanted just to create a bigger number. Does no good. There is a lot more to making a fast car than peak Hp numbers.

I've "kicked" it beside some blown cars as we left a chassis "dyno" day with my old 427. Knowing they made more HP than I did, I just knew they would walk away from me. SURPRISE.....I was still way out in front each time even though we made sure we were going fast enough to make sure wheelspin would not be an issue and it was a pure "HP" race. Gotta work on the "combo". Trust me. I've been spanked by stuff that shouldn't have beat me too!

I'd like to see your engine specs (I think it's a tough NASCAR type small block, right?)
