New Engine Pic!

I've got over a 1200 street miles on it so far. Only issue is it needs a stronger clutch. I pulled trans tonight and new clutch should be here next week.
Hopefully I can finally start working on "performance" numbers!!

I went through the same issues on clutch choices and talked to lots of the key players. My original plan was to just go ahead and install a sintered iron soft loc "slipper style" to help save driveline parts and make it easier to launch. Lots of folks run them on the street. The issue is that you need some RPM for it to lock up well uless you dial it way up on pressure. So you end up with a big difference in the street setup vs the track setup. The other issue is the real possibility of getting caught in traffic. The sintered ones heat up pretty quick and will have your flywheel "turned" after a while stuck in stop and go traffic, which is a real possibility in Houston! I've run button types on the street before, but they also require a lot of spring pressure.
So I ended up having Mcleod custom build a dual disc street twin for me. It appears to be the only thing that can handle "instant" flat foot at lower rpms. Gotta be prepared for any "encounters" that come up.
Interesting discussions with Mcleod tech guy. He recommends launching like an animal and setting tires up to be the "fusible" link in the drivetrain. He says once you're making stupid HP levels and want to run a clutch that hooks and doesn't slip, you have to engineer some slip into it somewhere. They suggest adding air to tire or whatever to get it to spin 1-2 turns on launch, otherwise you ahve enough HP to start breaking stuff.
Race deals can run a clutch that makes up for this because it slips on launch, but they come out at 7000 rpm and never fall below it. We have all this pesky street driving to compromise with!
C'mon....you really going auto????
I think I feel a tear coming on........

"Gotta be prepared for any "encounters" that come up." :D :D :D
Jim,
I never thought that I would ever hear you even mention going to an automatic

Interseting what Mcloud told you about the fusible link. I guess I need to do some more research. What did that clutch cost ?
The Jefco out the door with shifter, yoke and mount is 5200. Jeffco claims they are a lot stronger than a Jerico, or G-Force.

I know an auto is a lot more sensible, but I sure like hitting all the gears!! Lots more fun than a remote control car!
The Jeffco is essentially a planetary deal that for sure is going to be strong, but I don't hear of too many folks hurting a Jerico! And I'm sure the G-Force can handle it too. I figure my poor 'ole Nash is just waiting to explode (I'm having to fix a shift arm in while clutch is out right now) but I'm going to baby it and see if I can make it last.
'69 NOX rat....you have I/M.

Oh sure Jim, point the finger at me
