me bad, can't spell---I have world sportsman ll heads in my corvette and they have been good and along with a cam made an pretty well stock L-82 engine perform very nicely. I am building up a little peppier motor now and was thinking of using cast iron motown series -2 220 heads. The budget dictates I don't look at really fancy stuff. Anyone with hands on with these heads?
Thanks
What size motor are you building? 400ci+? With that large of intake port (presumebly exhaust as well) you better have the cylinder volume to take advantage of it. A good way to select your head is to find the smallest intake runner with the best flow in the same range of your cam. The motown may flow very well at high lifts, and high RPM, but in a 350 port velocity will be down. If your building a 8000rpm screamer that wouldn't be your main concern, but i'm assuming this is a street motor? I have AFR 195's with my 406 and I can lay rubber doing 40mph...so far i'm happy with them! :reddevil:
A little more information about the motor would definietly help me/others make a decent recommendation for your combination. If your building a street motor where midrange torque is most valuable I would stay at or under 200cc on the intake with a cam profile to match.
Good luck, the 406 was nearly a 9th month project for me, a lot was learned and a handful of patience made for a great outcome....thus far.
sorry I was a little vague. The motor is for a 3rd gen camaro that I want to run at bonneville. So far, gm 1182 nitrated crank, 6 inch h beam rods, wisco forged thick top pistons that will make 10.3 cr, team g 2" rise intake, double pump mech 800, msd digital 6 and pro dist, cam is mech with 300 duration at "0" and .550 intake and .560 exhaust. 1.5 rollers on the intake and 1.6 on the exhaust. First time try for about 180 mph and then spray it for around 200 and then spray it until it dies. If the motor survives it will probably find its way into the corvette. I am 60 years old so don't have that many fast ones left. Any motown stuff would be good.
