Default Small heads on 427sb

I'm looking to replace my 383 but I'm on a budget. What would happen if i put my edelbrock rpm heads on a 427 stroker small block? Would it make a lot of torque and less hp than expected,I would still use 15/8 headers 750dp holley and rpm intake??????

They're definitely on the small side for 427ci but you'd still see a power increase from the increased displacement. Expect more power from idle on up but a lower peak. What are your cam specs?. Though I like the RPM's on my 331, I'd want more on a 383. I'd also want more than 1 5/8" headers.

I suppose it would depend on how you use the car and your power goals but you might consider bigger heads instead of a new short block. If you're at 1hp per cube now, the 44 more cubes should get you another 40hp and all of them at a lower rpm. If you don't mind that same power increase without a low end boost, new heads and cam would be cheaper. Selling the RPM's would help offset some of the cost.

That could make one hell of a driver. Not bad at the track either, once you get traction. Keep the limitations of the heads in mind when you select a cam. You can start off with those headers, on a budget, but I think you'll need 1 3/4" eventially. Good luck, and...

I have a 489int and 520exh lift cam now 230/240 dur@50 I would pick another cam for the 427block.
I can't say the exact power it makes now but the car runs very well,I originally wanted to go the route of the stroked 400 block but at the time this was a new idea and prices were very high. What cam would you recomend?
I'm not sure I can fit larger headers with the steeroids package the coupler is very close now to the pipe.

I don't like to recommends cams, especially, that I haven't tried. It's a no-win situation. The one you have, doesn't sound bad at all. And it's paid for. Initially, I probably would have suggested something smaller, but since you have it...Give it a shot. If you don't like that, get on the horn with a couple of the cam companies. Good luck, and...
