I wouldn't do it ...unless you really want to spin a bearing or sieze the crank. Either way it will be MUCH more expensive than spending the $80 or so to get the rods resized.

i have changed many rod bolts without reconditioning. i have a steel plug that is 2.225 dia that i put into the big end,torque the original bolts to spec and the remove 1 bolt and replace it with the new one,torque to spec and then do the same to the other bolt. you should do this in a rod vise.
I know this isn't the right thing to do but has anyone ever installed new [hi strength] rod bolts with out resizeing the big end after? sb 400ci.
