I am trying to decide which pistons to use in my current project. The engine is a standard bore 350 with factory "dished" pistons, and a stabdard deck height(no milling or zero decking) I am considering going to a flat-top piston or possibly one with a .100 dome. The engine will be using 76cc heads. I am looking for between 9.0 and 9.5 to 1 compression.
Does anyone know what compression I could expect with either of these combos and will the use of a small domed piston like the one mentioned cause any problems?
Hi Mike,
Sounds like you have a set of smog heads there. The flat tops should give you about a 8.5cr. The 0.100 domes about 9.5. Either will work fine.
Unless you are on a budget, why not get a different set of heads? Going that way and depending on the choice of 64's heads you make, will make a big performance difference.

standard flatop piston, 76cc head, .040 gasket, zero deckheight, would give you just about a 9.4:1 ratio. drop that gasket to a .035, you would have a 9.6:1 ratio.
Then add in his .020" - .030" deck height, and he won't even get to 9.0:1. Most stock replacement pistons are decked an additional, .010". They don't tell you this, but it saves them hassles. Hell! He may even have MORE than .030" with new pistons. Good luck, and...
