Well yes the fluid type dampner is better at reducing crankshaft vibes to the timing set. But if correctly balanced you can run with a normal elastomer type dampner.
Definatly would be worth it to dissemble motor and blueprint/verify everything yourself before start-up. :yesnod:
Cardo0 - I have a 4 inch stroker and 6 inch rods. I also have a 3.875 kit that I'm making a 396 ci short block motor just to get it out of my garage. Some rods are manufactured for stroker applications. The other big thing is the cam base circle.
If you stay away from Comp roller Cams rod grinding is not required
