I think i might have gone to far. Mine range from .018 to .022 on the top ring. The second ring is Cast and i have .023 to .028. I was shooting for .018 on top and .022 on the second, but i got a little carried away with the grinder. It's a 406 SBC with fresh hone on the cyls. Will i be OK in a street strip application or should i get new rings and try again?
Re: Ring Gap for Speedpro Plasma Moly rings (ralph)
ralph if you were useing std gap rings they would check in at about .035 so your under that but its up to you its probally worth less than 10 hp maybe less than 5 hp
Re: Ring Gap for Speedpro Plasma Moly rings (CFI-EFI)
I also have a 406 with those pistons and rings. I will run a 175 shot of nos. I set top ring at .025 seconr ring at.022. This was 1 inch down in bore. For kicks I put the torque plate on and gaps shrunk to .022 on top and .020 on second ring. I have similar large end gaps on my 383 with 50k. Never an issue. Put your mind at ease it will be fine. Too much end gap is allways better than too little! Just my $.02 :steering:
