Hello Everyone,
I need some help with my tach drive distributor from my '72 Vette. The tach itself seems to be working fine but, it is not driving the tach. I have taken a drill and attached it to the tach drive cable and it runs the tach just fine. so, how do I disassemble the coupler and crossshaft and replace it with a new one.
I am reasonably, mechanically inclined but, I have never had one of these apart so, please be detailed in your description.
Chuck your stock points distributor, and purchase a new MSD billet tach drive distributor. It was one of the best mods I have ever made. The only reason to use the stock system would be to keep the car original.
Thanks folks for all the input. You are right, I should probably trash it and get a new billet one but, I am trying to keep it somewhat original. So, I am back to my original question.....Could someone please tell me how to dissassemble the tach drive cross shaft for replacement? Please be as detailed as possible.
PM,
The brass coupler comes out counter clockwise and the gear (or whats left of it) will come out with it, there is also (or should be) a little washer on the gear. If it was me I would do this in a bench vise, use a chisel to budge the brass, it won`t take much to loosen it. ...redvetracr
