Re: Need engine run stand recommendations.... (67beast)
I have been using a run stand to start up all of my engines since the early 90's. They are a great way to make sure everything is sealed up and functioning properly prior to installing the motor in the car.
Re-torqueing heads, valves, etc. is a snap. I can't think of any bad experiences. I would highly recommend one to anyone. It is one of those deals that once you use it you wonder how you ever managed without one.
Mine uses water from a garden hose for cooling purposes. I have seen some that use radiators. I might add a radiator to mine in the future.
Re: Need engine run stand recommendations.... (67beast)
I just made up a frame that fits on my engine stand. I use a bellhousing and cooling system from an old truck I had. It is great for first run and also for getting things sorted out before install. Highly recommended.
Retro hyd roller kits are way expensive. An old style 400sbc was modified to accept late model gm hydraulic roller lifters. I wanted to test run the 406 for any issues associated with the conversion. Pulling valve covers and intakes can be a real pain on a C4.

Thanks to all for your replies. Do you have any recommendations for a run stand out there on the market that I could buy. I would like to make one, but time is short, and I would have to get help with the welding part of it.
