I snapped a few pics this morning. Unfortunately, the car is still on the DynoJet and I don't want to disconnect it yet. The bad part is the exhaust picture is really poor. I could only get a side view. There will be more pics when the car is finally off the DynoJet.
Here are the numbers with different correction factors:
They fit uder there perfectly and I love how it is remains concealed unless you really take a look down low from the side. I would love to hear how that beast sounds at idle? Someone on a previous post once mentioned it must sound like a chopper. I was thinking about that and thinking that it probably does. I have never heard an engine before of your displacement with the sound of those MASSIVE pistons cycling up on down. Your exhaust project has inspired me to pick up some welding equipment and learn how to weld.
Andre: You have an advantage over a lot of people on this forum. You can actually drive to my house and hear the thing run! BTW, how are you holding up? I hope you are improving daily!
groovyjay: Thanks!
OatBoy: Currently alternating between Comp T/A 275-17's and Radial T/A 275-15's. Neither is good enough.
Somehow you managed to get all that in there....632 tall deck....Big Chiefs.....huge intake.......2-3/8" headers.....dry sump system.......vacuum pump.......lines.....heater hoses........alternator......4" pipes......4 mufflers...... etc etc.....and still end up with the cool simple clean look I love! I am truly impressed!
When you take it out to drive it...go by somewhere and get it weighed. Since a C-3 showed up with a Tom's IRS and ran 9.0's at the pump gas drags.......no reason you can't have a REAL GOOD TIME next year. I mean even the winner used a G-force! We can install clutchless sliders in it for the weekend! I'll come up and be your pit crew!!

Steve
I'm in much better shape now thanks Steve, crutches hopefully soon but no weight on the right leg for another 3+ months. My proximity is indeed an unfair advantage over others on the forum for which I have no regrets whatsoever.
I am also dying to hear the 632 run and was sorry I missed it the last time. The 496 is all ready to be fired up, just waiting for me to show up for the initial start up. I am having a couple xtra little bits and pieces cleaned up on it which I don't have the patience nor inclination to do right now myself. My leg therapy is being specifically targeted toward operating a clutch before all else;-) Once the vette is alive again I'll get her broken is ASAP and test run her your way. Seeing her bigger older "Brutha" will give her something to continue to aspire toward and hopefully rub off in some positive way;-)
Did you ever install the electric exhaust cutouts? I was thinking about it as given your system you may never decide to use them always choosing to run through all 4? agiffard@msn.com is being checked on a regular basis if you need get in touch with me concerning anything software related or otherwise.
Jim, I saw the article and the TV show on the Pump Gas Drags. Once again the problem is the rollcage deal. They clearly stated that all cars must pass an NHRA safety inspection. BTW, just remember that it was your idea that originally got me going on doing this Big Chief 632!
Andre, it sounds like you are holding up ok. I can't fathom being laid up for 3-6 months. I just hope that you will be 100% when it is all said and done. I bailed on the exhaust cut-outs. Further investigation determined that they would have the exact opposite effect that I wanted. I will email you.
Why can't I see the pics? I'm missin something. My sister lives in Puyallup/Spanaway. I might have to make a trip up to see the car, uhhhh I mean my sister.
Tires will be just fine;-) What Steve needs is more power! So what comes first Steve, a gentle ride on the street or hooking up that bottle and seeing what happens?
I think it possible my hood may not fit your car. The reason I state this is the one I got from you sits very high at the front (.75") on my nose in contrast to my original. This is requiringing a fair amount of reshhaping of the L88 hood The whole front clip on my car has been replaced before which the old hood perfectly matches but I just don't know which hood is mishaped or if indeed they both are. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it were mine. I will find out as if it is my hood that is out you don't want it and I am also more compelled to keep it as if I were to revert back I would have to redo another hood to my misshapen nose. Problem is I need a third hood to verify. To further add insult to injury it got gouged in the shop just forward of the driver side hinge. Not a big deal but an unneccesary aggrevation nonetheless
I have a buddy who I believe may have an extra. I will give him a call and see what he has for fitting purrposes or possibly just for you if it is in better shape than my original given the recent damage. Will shoot you an email.
Hi, Joe. Sorry to say the only update I have is not being able to get the carb dialed in. I spent about 12 hours on the dyno trying to get the idle, low speed driveability, and freeway driveability set up.
I was successfull with the idle and low speed driveability but failed miserably on the freeway driveability. The A/F at 3000rpm with part throttle is 11.2:1 to 12.5:1. Way too rich.
I have another carb on the way from AED in Virginia. It will be here in another week or so. In the meantime, the car is still strapped to the dyno.
I am keeping extremely busy eating fiberglass dust from my '69 restoration, however. Will there ever be an end...
Sorry to hear of the difficulties Steve but I have no doubt you will get it all straightend out before long. When you get that sucker ready for the test drive head up my way. If nothing else when one of the two catches on fire (likely mine)or requires a flatbed ride home (likely mine again) one can lend moral support for the other;-) I got the 496 fired up and she is all ready to go apart from a few minor adjustments for safety purposes which should be squared away in a day or two. I haven't been able to drive it yet given the big fat cast still remaining on my right foot but I expect to hopefully be rid of that Tuesday. My 69 sounds fantastic and it has been driven by my engine builder alone who himself is pleased with the results. Got that great raspy idle I just love. Spent a few hours chasing down a suspected fuel problem only to find the new guage I bought was deffective, go figure. Exhaust is however still a nightmare. Headers are just too close to the floor for comfort, I'm afraid side pipes may be inevitable unless I can get a system figured out something like yours although I don't think my pokey 580-600 HP will require 4 mufflers;-)
Andre, I'll bet you can't wait to get rid of the cast. Glad to hear all is well with the 496. BTW, whose block are you using for your motor? Is it the 427 block that came in the car or an aftermarket or what?
