any tips on installing/using a crankcase evac pump?
in the latest summit catalog, i found a vented nut that has o-rings for installing on the valve cover... seems like a good idea.
i've read that HP gains from 3-6% can be found by using a crankcase evac pump... this seems like a LOT. any comments?
thanks in advance!

"I have been running an electric vacuum pump on my car for about 2 years now and it has worked well. (I tracked down the part number 22062562 at GM parts direct cost $117.68 list $235.37. The GM vacuum pump is available on 85-86 and a few early 87 Cadillac Sedan DeVilles. It was a "supplemental" vacuum system to aid the power brake booster. The dimensions including the motor assembly are roughly 7" x 6" x 4" with 12V DC power and a single 3/8" (-6AN) inlet connection. It pulls ~10-12" at idle, and 6-8" at redline (6800-7000). [Note: The ideal is 15 of Hg, in the crankcase at full throttle for engine driven vacuum pumps.] It is pulling through the valve cover. It has the additional benefit of excellent oil control (with respect to leaks) , as well as keeping the intake, etc. clean (from oil). Got my vacuum pump in. mounted it were the battery used to be. There was a small but noticeable improvement in performance thru out the RPM range. There was no oil vapor odor after a sustained 5000 rpm run. In my opinion I think it was a worthwhile purchase."
It's electric pump, the alt should be putting out more power at that rpm tooBTW- I think it's good idea. Plumb in the headlight vac system into it & add a Hydroboost kit for the brakes & you have no vac lines comming off the motor
