Default any tips on installing/using a crankcase evac pump?

i'm planning on installing an electric crankcase evac pump and was wondering if anybody had any pics of installs or any tips/tricks/advice?

in the latest summit catalog, i found a vented nut that has o-rings for installing on the valve cover... seems like a good idea.

i've read that HP gains from 3-6% can be found by using a crankcase evac pump... this seems like a LOT. any comments?

thanks in advance!

Default Copied this from a forum...

I don't remember where I picked this up, but it gave details and part numbers. It was done by the author of the post (not me), so I can't answer follow-up questions. I copied it for future personal use, but haven't gotten around to it...

"I have been running an electric vacuum pump on my car for about 2 years now and it has worked well. (I tracked down the part number 22062562 at GM parts direct cost $117.68 list $235.37. The GM vacuum pump is available on 85-86 and a few early 87 Cadillac Sedan DeVilles. It was a "supplemental" vacuum system to aid the power brake booster. The dimensions including the motor assembly are roughly 7" x 6" x 4" with 12V DC power and a single 3/8" (-6AN) inlet connection. It pulls ~10-12" at idle, and 6-8" at redline (6800-7000). [Note: The ideal is 15 of Hg, in the crankcase at full throttle for engine driven vacuum pumps.] It is pulling through the valve cover. It has the additional benefit of excellent oil control (with respect to leaks) , as well as keeping the intake, etc. clean (from oil). Got my vacuum pump in. mounted it were the battery used to be. There was a small but noticeable improvement in performance thru out the RPM range. There was no oil vapor odor after a sustained 5000 rpm run. In my opinion I think it was a worthwhile purchase."

I wonder why it would suck less at a higher rpm It's electric pump, the alt should be putting out more power at that rpm too

BTW- I think it's good idea. Plumb in the headlight vac system into it & add a Hydroboost kit for the brakes & you have no vac lines comming off the motor

There is more blowby creating higher crankcase pressure at higher rpms, more to evacuate means it is overrunning the pumps capacity.

you need to reverse the front crank seal or it will suck in dirt as is orignally used to prevent the internal pressure from geting out
