Default L98-383 Buildup

Hi,
Waiting for my 406 parts to gather and have my 87
L98 block to sell. Have a friend who is interested in me
building him up a 383 out of it and use the OEM Hyd
Roller feature comes with. In the current 350 form, I
was running a Schneider 284-RH cam/224@.50 and
.480 with 1.6-.512 lift. He also wants to convert it to 4-bolt With about 450-500HP. I will be ordering him a good 383 steel kit and street compression pistons. Heads to be determind later.
Questions?
Is this block going to have to be clearanced for 3.75
stroke? Going to check it anyway.
Small base circle cam?
2 bolt to 4? I said 2 bolt fine for street.
Trying to keep cost down.
I also recommended more cam since 383.
Opinions and recommendations appreciated.
Thanks
jaykar

Yeah going to 4 bolt is expensive. $Parts + the block has to be line bored and honed=$$$. Clearancing for 3.75 will depend on the rods and rod bolts you are going to use. You probably will have to. Its easy though. Small base circle cam? No you wont need that. More cam will work. Try 230-236 range, but the cam you have will also work well.

1.) Yes
2.) No. You will have to check for clearance. Some rods will clear, as is. Some will have to be clearanced.
3.) I agree.
4.) It all depends on what he wants. That cam doesn't sound too bad.

RACE ON!!!

Default What up Jim??

I tried to email you a couple weeks ago, but never got a reply. Is your email working? I'm going to be at the track on the 10th for the last "mid night drags". Got the new cluthc in ($350, OUCH!), and I'm ready for a baseline, take II. lol

P.S. I've infultrated the CF.

Hi,

Thanks for reply on L98 buildup. Probably going
to go with either Sharriof or Bill Mitchell assembly to
set this up.
He wants more cam but will have to be careful as to
centerlines and duration as he is on MAF also.
