Default Crate Motor Questions

Here is the link to the question I asked in the C1/C2 area.

I would like to know the thoughts or concerns regarding the build of the crate motors from MAS Performance.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/showthread.php?t=931578

Thanks
Ryan

Don't have any info for you on that partucular engine builder but there has been some discussion regarding the quality of crate motor sold over the internet in the C3 section for some time now.

I personally can't figure out why you and others who are looking on the net at engine shops sometimes half way across the country don't take your $4500 down to your local engine builder, talk to him about what you want built and have him build it?

I discovered many so called mailorder engine shops are just reboxing factories. If u can't visit the shop or are not convinced of good machine work - save ur $$$. Most of us don't know the diference between static balancing or dynamic let alone the different methods. Or blueprinting and ring filing or hone fitting pistons in each bore? And who can verify torque applied in increments? Hey remember even the good guys have bad days.
And those GM motors are sold at many different hp levels with very competitive prices.
Maybe have the dealer install too. They would have to honor the warrenty if needed.
Good luck. cardo0

I have talked to several people about some of the engine builders local to me. I have heard things both good and bad about them. The shop that I was looking at is close enough for me to go pick up the engine. I occasionally have to go to Wisconsin anyway.

I was more interested in the quality of components used. A local builder is still an option, but I would like to know the quality of the components, and the matching of components for best performance, is something I will be happy with. I don't have the personal experience with all the different makers of engine components.

The link to the website was just so some body could go look at their engines. Many places have a presence on the web even though they are not necessarily web vendors.

thanks for the input
Ryan
