From AFR

Hydraulic Roller Rev Kits:

"With today’s valve train components and the steep acceleration rates on hydraulic roller cams, it isn’t possible to properly control the valves and valve train by simply increasing valve spring pressure. This usually results in collapsed lifters. AFR has created a solution! The Hydra-Rev applies additional spring pressure to the lifter body, not the plunger. This vastly improves valvetrain stability which results in more power at higher RPM without any loss in low end torque. In testing (see the dyno charts below) Hydra-Rev increased power at 6500 RPM with Comp Cams’ CS280HR10 by more than 100 horsepower!"

So is there a down side to a Rev kit besides cost? Why not put a Comp or AFR rev kit on a hydrolic roller cam and rev to 6800-7000 rpm?

I'm going to test a Crane rev kit in my big block over the winter. I have a Comp Hyd roller cam, we shall see if it will do anything or just be a big waste of time I guess.

Well I did a cam swap and was going to put in the rev kit at the same time but I ran into a small problem. I'm using a mark 6 block and all of the factory hyd roller lifter and spider retention system. Well I stepped up to a comp cams xr294hr and the base circle is a little smaller than the xr282hr. So the lifters are now just even with the tops of the alignment blocks and the crane rev kit needs to sit ontop of the lifters and a small lip which goes down the outside of the lifter. Needless to say there is no room left for the spring perch of the rev kit to sit on top of the lifters. So now I have to make some new preches that will locate from the inisde of the lifter body rather than the outside. Once I have figured out a way around this I'll update everyone.

also if anyone has ever wondered what the differnce is between the factory small block rollers and the big block roller lifters. Well the sides which are machined flat to locate the lifter in the alignment blocks are clocked 90 degreeds apart. Someone must have been asleep at the design wheel when they cam up with this system. They could have rotated the small block lifters the 90 degrees and used the same lifter in small and big blocks.
