Help! Does position matter on externally balanced flexplate?
I bought Grandsportc3's AR 383 motor. He had a Tremek. I have a 2004r, so I had to buy a flexplate for the externally balanced 400 crank. Does it matter how it is positioned on the crank? Looks like the bolt holes match up no matter how I turn it.
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
I had my externally balanced motor balanced with the flywheel and harmonic balancer. When I ground a few thou off the shoulders of my rods to clear the cam I was thinkinig I might need to get the the motor re-balanced.
Not sure about your motor but on my notor if I changed flywheels I would have to get the whole motor re-balanced and especially if I went to a flexplate for an automatic.

A good machine shop should be able to match the balance of the new flex plate to the old flywheel. Otherwise you probably have to tear it down and get everything rebalanced.

The balance of the part doesn't seem to be the problem. The problem is in the installation, so that the imbalance is correctly orented with the rest of the rotationg assembly.
