since my car is getting painted a little sooner then planned. i need to get the hood together faster then i had wanted for the big block. i am going to be putting in a 496 offy hirise dual quad. my plan was to modify a stock SB hood with a scoop. still it is a street car and i need to see where i am going in right turns. any good ideas.
thanks
greg
If you're going to be doing hood work anyway, I'd look into adding a 427 type scoop, but I'd do some work to add about 1" to it's height. If done right it's not too noticeable. Check with 67ratrag here on the Forum..he has one that is about the best I've seen. He kept the front opening stock, but raised it just behind the opening and you have to be paying attention to notice.
There was also the old Grand Sport Nassau hood with the the two large rectangular openings in the front. I think it looked killer, but when I measured one, it was actually slightly shorter in the center than the 427 one. But it worked great with sidedraft carbs. Might look into one of them for something different.
I have a Nassau style on my '64, made by Jeff Leach / Mid America. For reference, the top of my air cleaner w/ 4" element on Holley on a sbc dual plane manifold is 1/8" above the center of the body right in the middle of the windshield. I have a wee bit of clearance under the hood. Can send e-mail pics if you like and can post them here but would have to figure out how. The hoods from MA are made in 2 hieghts, mine is the taller one. About $600.
