Have you guys fooled around with flow benches at all? The more I read, the less I trust the guys making and porting the heads! Its as if everything said is "Add 20% hp increase and double your price if you ask!"

MotorHead is right!

I've owned a set of Canfield heads and I had them flowed before and after some porting. The numbers on their website are misleading. Don't get me wrong they are strong heads but they CANT hold a candle to AFR's and the likes IMO.

They were going to cost me BIG DOLLARS if I wanted to get their flow numbers up to par.

You can see my flow numbers both before and after here.

http://home.comcast.net/~f12x/Canfields.bmp

http://www.canfieldheads.com/sbc_2500.html

They were even flowed on a 4.155 bore which tends to enhance numbers. The big gain you see in my chart is due to the heads being opened up to FP1206, the exhaust ports had very very little work done to them. My chart also shows how the Canfields were backing up above .500 out the box!

Look at the numbers on their website and then look at realworld numbers then decide for yourself! I traded my set for P600B kit

Been there done that boys and if that guy Jay still works there, watch out cause him and I went round and round about why my install heights were way off from valve to valve out the box.

The old saying, you get what you pay for may apply here! If you do buy some be sure to buy them direct from Canfield because I can gaurantee they'll toss excuses around when you start asking questions.

I'm surprised at how the Canfields fell off after .500! Not too bad numbers up to that point, though...Yes, the flow bench and cold hard numbers tell the truth.

I don't know how much the truck weighs, but i'll find out.

As for the Canfields, 88-406 bought the 195's just like mine, their great up to 500 lift for flow #'s past that and they start to fall off. The 195 head is a street head ( mild street). Their 220 head will require offset rockers, the 215 head takes standard valve train componets. Oh and that Jay guy is Jay Allen who is owner of camshaft innovations. He hasn't worked at Canfield for years. John is the owner and will talk to you on the phone.

AFR's are simply over priced and the wait time is rediculous. PERIOD !! There have been plenty of people with troubles from AFR.

My main objective to offer another head to look at and express my opinion that a 215 CC head wouldn't be too big.

If you want to look elsewhere for flow #'s and not the MFG, go to chevy high performance and look in the archives, they have independent studies of flow data for ALL sbc and bbc heads.

BTW, before you say canfields are junk look at my times in my sig. One thing you will notice is the more nitrous i put to the car the faster it goes, i commend that all to the heads because it's certainly not the 218-230 @ .050 460 lift hyd cam that's doing it, or the dual plane manifold.

I think for the money, I'll prob end up using Brodix heads. The Edelbrocks CNC VicJrs flow nice, but the Brodix flow just as well before the CNC work.
