GM Camaro

Base Camaro coupe =
$22,000 sticker + $5,000 addtl dealer profit = $27,000
Z28 coupe =
$29,000 sticker + $8,000 addtl dealer profit = $37,000
(yup, $29K msrp... I really don't think it would be cheaper than the GTO was)
Convertibles = add $5000 to each of the above prices. (same premium as the Mustang currently charges for a droptop)
I'm pretty confident that those prices will be very close, at least for the first 4-6 months of production.
Yup, the Z28 with markup will be close to a Corvette -- chalk it up to market frenzy, and the relative rarity and corresponding cachet of the new Fbody. It won't have the LS2 (out of production in 2008) but at a *minimum* it will have the 360hp 5.3L genIII V8, and maybe even the 430hp LS3 (maybe de-rated to 410hp to protect the Vette's halo). Either way, it will be *THE* cool new car to own, at least for that first year. Look at the Dodge Charger SRT... RWD, high HP V8, and worse styling... $38k MSRP -- a Z28 at $30k MSRP will look like a stone cold bargain.
Expect to see the intial run of Z28's sell on eBay for $50k+

While this is clearly an off-topic subject, speak for yourself. I'm sure there are a lot of Vette owners that like the concept Camaro. It might just breath some life into GM again. My first car was a '77 Camaro. Personally, I can't wait for the production version to hit the streets.

Since the new Camaro isn't due to hit dealer showrooms until the first quarter of 09, my guess is that it will have the LS3 engine, and maybe the new manual tranny as well. It will be interesting to see the colors with perhaps metallic striping. Since I will be saving my pennies for the C7, a Camaro is not in my future. But I like the looks of the car. For now, my "old" 05 C6 will do very nicely.

Because the Camaro wasn't in running form, movie personnel used a Camaro concept that had the rear-wheel-drive setup underneath it from a Pontiac GTO. At the time, GM was importing a GTO from its Australian unit. This GTO ended U.S. sales in calendar 2006, and the upcoming production Camaro will use a different rear-wheel-drive platform.

The above is cut and pasted from a googled atricle! The car was an actual concept prototype. A saleen rustang was used a a deceptacon, the Camaro's enemy (get it).

I love the new Camero and will be purchasing one for the stable. I just wish the General would bring back the beloved Trans Am, but for now it looks like my CETA(Collector Edition Trans Am) will truly be the last of the breed.

I have had 2 C5s and 3C6s, but it is going to be really hard not to get a new Camaro convertible. I dont think there has been anything close to an official announcement of pricing, but the feel is that it is going to be around $45K for a nicely equipped coupe. They will climb from there. I think I like the shock value when people will see the car.
It's a safe bet that the Camaro engines will mimic the Corvette engines, just like the GTO, CTS-V and other high end GM cars. Who cares if the Vette and Camaro share the same engine, they will be very different types of cars.
As far as pricing, use some common sense. The Camaro is going to go head to head with the Mustang. It likely won't have the Mustang's sales volumes, and will probably be a bit better executed (ie, IRS, 20" wheels, etc), so expect it to be just a bit more expensive than the competing Mustang model at that time.
Expect a V6 to cost $20-22K base. LS3 engine (guess) will come in a bit under $30, and whatever the top end model will be will be over $40.

GM Fretted Over Transformers Car
Shia LaBeouf, star of Michael Bay's upcoming Transformers movie, said that he and co-star Megan Fox were watched closely by a General Motors representative because the actors shot scenes inside GM's costly new Camaro concept car, one of only a few prototypes in existence. The sleek yellow sports car was used as the vehicular incarnation of the transforming robot Bumblebee in the movie.
"We had a dude on set with us from GM, who was a real loser," LaBeouf said in a group interview in Beverly Hills, Calif. "He was all over us."
Fox added: "He wouldn't let us sneeze or [anything]. ... You couldn't do anything inside the car, and we're trying to act in this scene, and we couldn't even move or touch the leather."
But when the GM rep wasn't watching, LaBeouf said: "When we [got] away from him, we're pushing the car at 140 on the freeway. The second we get back, ... he's, like, washing down the leather. We just, like, rode it through gravel."
Director Bay, who is famous for destroying dozens of cars in his films, denied LaBeouf's account. "No, that's completely bull," Bay told reporters in a separate press conference. "No, no. We did have the one prototype. The prototypes are really hard, because they cost, like, 5 million [dollars] to make. We made our own. We had the [computer-assisted-design] files with that car out there, which is a Saleen chassis, and we made it like in six weeks in Detroit, really fast." Bay referred to a replica of the Camaro concept car, which sat outside the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles, built by Saleen, a specialty vehicle manufacturer.
