I would think that the movie producers paid Saleen to build the car, not GM.

There you Go

Short version

GM LET Them BORROW THE PROTOTYPE for interior shots for filming

Bay had SALEEN build a REPLICIA out of a GTO frame and fabricated there own panels using the PROTYPE SPECS

Saw the HBO promo too, I can vouch for that, and the young kid was saying how if he crashed he's just an "actor" and it wouldn't be his fault.

I saw the hbo thing as well

GM Fretted Over Transformers Car

Shia LaBeouf, star of Michael Bay's upcoming Transformers movie, said that he and co-star Megan Fox were watched closely by a General Motors representative because the actors shot scenes inside GM's costly new Camaro concept car, one of only a few prototypes in existence. The sleek yellow sports car was used as the vehicular incarnation of the transforming robot Bumblebee in the movie.

"We had a dude on set with us from GM, who was a real loser," LaBeouf said in a group interview in Beverly Hills, Calif. "He was all over us."

Fox added: "He wouldn't let us sneeze or [anything]. ... You couldn't do anything inside the car, and we're trying to act in this scene, and we couldn't even move or touch the leather."

But when the GM rep wasn't watching, LaBeouf said: "When we [got] away from him, we're pushing the car at 140 on the freeway. The second we get back, ... he's, like, washing down the leather. We just, like, rode it through gravel."

Director Bay, who is famous for destroying dozens of cars in his films, denied LaBeouf's account. "No, that's completely bull," Bay told reporters in a separate press conference. "No, no. We did have the one prototype. The prototypes are really hard, because they cost, like, 5 million [dollars] to make. We made our own. We had the [computer-assisted-design] files with that car out there, which is a Saleen chassis, and we made it like in six weeks in Detroit, really fast." Bay referred to a replica of the Camaro concept car, which sat outside the Four Seasons Hotel in Los Angeles, built by Saleen, a specialty vehicle manufacturer.

Now you really have me confused. Was it a Mustang or a GTO that Saleen used. Your version keeps changing. I don't care . . .out of principle I'll by the beers. All I know is GM is damn happy that they are getting the Camaro marketing that they probably paid dearly for! And that bumble bee looks much more like a Camaro that any 'stang I've ever seen!

Saleen used a GTO as a DONOR

They completly hand fabricated the CAMARO body from the specs of the PROTOTYPE

Mustang for the police car

Then why was GM all over Lebouf's tip about being careful driving the car. And why would they have Saleen out of all car makers make it? I'm so confused it 's not funny, I want answers

The kind of reply I would expect to see on a Porsche board when someone posts asking about Corvettes.

I hope the Camaro ends up being a better value all together than a base Corvette so everyone who thought it was crap can eat their words
