C5/C6 versus 2011 Camaro
The 2011 Camaro is available with a 426HP V-8, and a 6-speed transmission. I test drove one today, as convertibles will be able to be ordered in the near future. The 2SS model (to get the 426HP V-8) stickers out at $38K. I figure a convertible will be another $5-$7K. That means a Camaro convertible will run $43-$45K. For THAT kind of money, I can buy nearly two low mileage C5 convertibles, or a very nice pre-owned C6 convertible, with cash to spare. Heck, I can even get a pre-owned C6 Z06.
While the cars are very different, I was hoping someone might have a C5/C6 AND a 2010-2011 Camaro ... to offer their input. The Camaro is obviously roomier on the inside (not counting the rear seat). The clutch seems like it's a bit awkward, but I am sure it will be workable (unless I upgrade the clutch). My wife does not like to step DOWN into a low Corvette - so I am thinking she will prefer the ease of ingress and egress for the Camaro. The Camaro seems like a smoother overall car ... better for daily driving. Then again, I have several vehicles myself, and drve my C5 abot 2-3K miles per years ... similar mileage on a few other cars - including classics. I do not drive to/from work ... but rather ... only for pleasure.
Currently, my wife has a large European sedan ... which is our vehicle of choice for long rides, or when we go out. I am thinking the Camaro might be more enjoyable on weekend days (wife may not agree, as her car has all of the luxo-features).
So, does anyone have first hand experience with any amount of real seat time in the 2010-11 Camaro, to offer comparison to a C5 or C6?

i've owned several late model camaro's SS's and c5 zo6's and a c6 z06..
no comparison...they are sports cars...
the camaro is not..it just depends on what you want...trying to make the pony car a sports car will just cost you a lot of money..but if ya want a back seat, i guess its worth it..??
there is no way gettin' around it..the camaro is big and heavy...the c5 Z i have at present is low.and my wife does not like getting in or out of it...but i am having a blast with it at the present, and at my age..no regrets..

Oh, I love my C5 Coupe as well. I am just not sure if I will STAY HAPPY with the Camaro, as a daily driver. It seemed to have nice pick-up, but I am sure it does not handle as well. I do not have performance mods on my Coupe ... and likely would not want to "transform" the Camaro into a highly modded car. I'm trying to work my way into a convertible. I don;t think I can justify a Z06 (stick, with no targa or convertible) to my wife. The only way I have any choice in anything, would be if it was a convertible ... whether it be a C5, C6 or Camaro. I am sure she would look favorably on the Camaro for more of utilitarian purposes (per se), as it would ahve more interior room - even in the front seats.
So, are you generally HAPPY when you frive the Camaro? Is it a 2010-11 SS with 426 HP & 6-speed?

a buddy of mine has a '10 2SS/RS with the LS3 and 6 speed. He LOVES it. It is a nice car and rides great and handles well for it's size. You'd be surprised if you drove one in a spirited manner

mainly a low 13 sec car but have been known to hit 12.6's. not too shabby for a pig.

I would definitely go with the Camaro if you already own a C5. Especially if the wifey prefers sitting down and standing up compared to falling into and climbing out of a vette.

That is a good looking pace car. If theres any Camaro (late model) to hang onto its that one. Keep it stock. Nice stable
I cant wrap my head around almost 40k for a camaro. 30k tops Id have one...just do some custom bodywork and lower that window sill some.
