Right at 220 I believe for the HO but as you can hear from the clip this one is nowhere near stock. I have a dyno showing 330-RWHP

Beautiful car. I'm the middle of resorting my 78 Trans am. Numbers matching 400 was turned into a 455 by RockNRoll engineering. Engine dynoed 580hp. Can't wait till I'm done with it.

These cars have just started to go up in value, and the nice ones will bring a premium. Funny thing is, I used to collect them when they were new, and now after so many years later, the urge has come back. The sound of pure muscle backed by true muscle car style. I remember a time when the Trans Am dominated even the Corvette. The 350 chevy was no match for the 400, 403 or 455.

And they are back in a big way I anticipate the values on these cars going way up in the next few years.

I was in the market for a new car back then, and unfortunately found out that Pontiac was discontinuing the 455 too late to order one. I spent 2-3 weeks scouring all the dealers within 2-300 miles of my home, looking for a low-optioned, black 455 T/A, with little luck. I did find one, but A) the dealer had already "rustproofed" it, and tacked on $400 for the "service", and B) absolutely wouldn't give me any reasonable amount of money on my trade-in.

Although it wasn't a 455 car, I wound up ordering a '77 T/A, with the T/A 6.6 Litre 400 engine, and it cost me quite a bit less to do the deal, since the dealer I bought it from gave me a reasonable deal on the '73 GrandAm I was trading in.

Don't Pontiac 455s put almost 500 foot lbs torque at like 2800 RPM, right when you need it?

Pretty much. They were a strong street engine, too bad GM killed them off at the end of '78 (the true Pontiac 400s, that is. they killed off the 455s at the end of the '76 model year)

The 455 had a 4.21 inch stroke!
