My 73 is a very nice origional car and 95% of the car is very presentable and show quality. 4 of the remaing 5 percent is the appearance of the wiper compartment. It looks like a blind man used a hot mop and black roofing tar! This is no doubt a factory application. I was thinking about going over it with black rubberized undercoating. Anyones thoughts and experiences in this area would be appreciated.
The appearance of your wiper compartment sounds original to me. If you're interested in keeping it factory original (that's where you posted) why would you change it?

It's original (sounding) and unless you completely remove the sound-deadening material before reapplying, you'll lose more points for a non-factory appearance. Just clean it well.
In talking with an NCRS judge he indicated that the Permatex Non-rubberized undercoating duplicates the factory mess quite well.
He used it on his 70 LT1 Conv. and got a Bloomington Gold Award!
There is a huge varianc in the build quality between all the cars assembled at St.Louis. Some compartments are nice a neat and some are a complete mess. If you want it like it came just clean it up.
My 70 was a mess too and I am claening it up since a lot of the coating was coming off on its own.. Keep us posted.
