Do all exhaust manifold casting dates include the year? The four manifolds I have, have one letter and one or two numbers. Examples: L1, D23, F26, F19.
The last two numbers are on the Corvette, built in late July 1973, now and I believe they are the original manifolds. If the year is not cast-in how is the year determined or is that not a judging point for NCRS folks?
Does the big GM # stand for a mold number?
Roger
Roger, I concur with Patrick. My exhaust manifold casting dates are very close to yours (2nd/3rd week of June) for a late July car, and consist of only a letter for the month and one or two digits for the date.
I have always suspected that the casting dates WOULD be visible when the manifolds were installed if one knew exactly where to look, but I am pretty sure that they are NOT JUDGED in NCRS flight judging.
For 73-79, the exhaust manifold casting numbers are 3932461 (LH&RH) for small blocks and 3969869 (LH) and 3880828 (RH) for 73-74 big blocks.
Thanks for the info. I am having to replace my manifolds and am trying to get ones that would appear to be correct. All of the manifolds that I have are the casting # 3932461. The two newer ones have a square raised surface just above the AIR boss which are not on the original ones.
