Spare tire wheel
What type of wheel am I supposed to have for the spare tire on a '69 with rally wheels. I have a steel wheel that appears to be correct but I am not sure how to identify an original wheel. Does anyone have a picture they can post??? :sleep: :smash:

SVM, your spare wheel should look exactly like your rally wheels, because originally it was a rally wheel. It should be painted silver on the outside and semi-gloss black or semi-flat black on the inside with slight overspray through the holes just like the other four wheels.

If you have an original rally wheel spare, you can easily read the date code since there is no trim ring. Down by the valve stem, you'll find some stampings. You should have an AZ code wheel, which is 8 inches wide. You should find something like....K 1 9 7 (valve hole) 16 AZ....... That would translate a K for Kelsey Hayes, 1 for the plant, 9 for the year (69), 7 for the month, 16 for the day, and AZ for the wheel size. The wheel should preceed the assembly date of the car. If you find something like K 1 0 6 (hole) 18 AZ, you have a 1970 wheel made on June 18, and so on. Hope this helps. Chuck
