Not sure where this goes, but I was asked by a C6 Z owner yesterday, "When the first Z06 was made?" If I'm not mistaken, wasn't there a Z06 code for a C2 or C3? Or am I way off base? I don't think it was like the Z06s of today, but more or less just a code for suspension or performance or something.
I'm not exactly sure. I thought I remembered it being on a 60s or 70s model. Hopefully I'm not mixing it up with the LS-6. I know that was the 70's 454 and LS6 is my 346. I'm going to do a little research on this one.
You are right, http://www.z06vette.com/63.php
This was the essentially race-ready Corvette coupe in 1963. It included the 360 hp FI engine, heavy duty (to be F40) suspension, 36 gallon fuel tank, heavy duty segmented and finned brakes, and more.
It was about $1800 on a $4250 car.
Later it was modified to allow convertibles to get the option, although there is question about if any actually got it, even though one has surfaced that appears to be the real thing.
