Sand blasted my half shafts and drive shaft and found the following markings.
One half shaft had a horizontal mark with one vertical mark crossing it, The other has the same horizontal mark and two vertical marks crossing it.
The drive shaft has two markings which goes 3/4 around the shaft. These must be grease crayon markings that penatrated the metal. Any idea what these markings mean?.
Also found the frame vin # during the side exhaust removal. I was surprised how easy it was to locate it using a mirror and pen light.
Are the marks on your drive shaft green by chance. If so they are from a 69 and up car. Not sure if they did any other markings but my books don't mention it it for 67.
There is no color, only the oil residue that has penetrated the metal that has a "fingerprint" of the marking. Not sure if the numbers on the shafts tell the year, but will check.
Midjeers are out of my areas of knowledge, so this from a reference book..."Corvette Chassis Restoration Guide 1953-1972", 1st Ed, by Joseph A. Tripoli, jr. It has a photograph on page 64 that is supposed to show a driveshaft, but I can't see the detail. However, the caption says:
"This unrestored 1967 Chassis still has the driveshaft attached to the rear housing. Note that the front of the shaft (near the front yoke) has 2 painted rings. The ring closest to the front yoke is orange. The ring behind it is green."
There is nothing on the halfshafts.
Quanta sells chassis restoration kits. They are expensive, but they have all the stencils, necessary paint colors and suggestions on how to replicate the inspection marks.

You mean page 71 :D As for my post above I meant to say half shafts not having any markings on them. One book aside from the one Chuck mentioned above is Original Corvette String Ray 1963-1967 The Restores Guide by Tom Falconer. It has some really nice colored shots of markings etc. Worth the $$$$ in getting.
Naw...Now, don't you go to correctin' me, Sonny...I'm your elder. Don't they teach you Canajuns manners up dere? :jester :jester
Actually, Ronster, most of these old reference books have multiple editions. My copy of Tripoili's book is an old first edition and the page reference is correct...maybe I should spring for a newer edition like you young whippersnappers. :D
Elder smelder :D I see what you mean, I looked in the front of mine and there is 3 printings of the first edition. What the heck is a Revised edition. This guy has done it twice...would this not mean that it would be 2nd and 3rd editions with updates. Does he have a fear of moving to the 2 printing ????
It is however a good read and hopefully if he does make it to the 2nd printing, color will be introduced to its pages.
