Default 1980 shocks

I have a 1980, it is 99% original, just had the original style tires replaced (how solid white letters). Noticed the shocks need to be replaced, what were the original type of shocks from the factory? If I am going to replace, I figured I will go with what it came with.

Thanks

If memory serves they were GM Delco oil type. Stiffer for the optional gymkhana suspension package. The NCRS 80-82 Judging Manual will probably list the specifics on color, correct labels, part numbers, etc.

Good luck with the hunt. 4 NOS shocks might be a bit difficult to find and pricey if you find them.

GM replacement shocks for '63-'82 Corvettes are:

Front - AC-Delco #530-315, GM #88947653

Rear - AC-Delco #530-4, GM #88945172

These will not be configured exactly like the originals, as GM hasn't made shocks for over 20 years; they'll be from Gabriel or Monroe, with an AC-Delco label on them. Remove the label, paint them Delco gray and put the correct broadcast stickers on them and that's as close as you'll get.

NOS shocks (if you can find them) will be flabby and expen$ive; don't bother with them.
