Default Do I have 1967 Distributor?

I was given a distributor and the box is mark 1967 distributor. How do I verify? Where do I look for the P/N? The base looks like shinny aluminum.

Respo, there should be a pink or natural (pink inside) aluminum band around the distributor shaft housing where the distributor is clamped to the intake manifold. There should be part number on that band. If you get us a part number, we can tell you which application the distributor fits.

I've looked over the Distributor. I don't see any band. I didn't take off the rotor. Do I need too?

If the band with the part number around the base of the housing is gone it can be nearly impossible to detemine what you actually have, however, if the housing is aluminum, as you mention, is it not a Corvette distributor.

All Corvette distributors (with carbureted engines) from about '62 until the advent of the HEI system in 1975 had cast iron housings with the tachometer drive cross gear built into the housing.

Its not aluminum someone just polished it. It has the number 40 in the casting near the shaft.

I am afraid you are SOL on conclusively identifying that distributor. That "40" is probably a casting mark that has no meaning to anybody except some old geezers that may already be dead.

If this distributor was a gift, then maybe you can make a few bucks by selling it on ebay, OR, IF if is a Corvette distributor, you could have High Tech or another distributor shop rebuild it and set it up for your engine. It would probably be cheaper just to find a real, used distributor, but you should expect it to be about worn out if it has never been rebuilt.

Let's approach this from another angle, Respo; you tell us what engine displacement, ignition (TI or standard), transmission, and whether it has A.I.R. or not, and we will tell you what part number distributor you need.

Thanks Chuck. My car is a 327/300, 4 speed, no nothing. Just super clean and nearly all original. The free distributor would be "attic stock". I just would like to know what it was really for. Like I said on the box is written 1967 Corvette. Not much to gone on. But it appears to be in great condition. New Points, Condenser and Rotor. No Cap.

Respo, believe it or don't, there are ten different distributors for 67 Corvettes.

Even though the giver has told you it is for a "67 Corvette", he ain't really told you squat. The odds are that it is one of the four small block applications, but now we are off guessing. If you still have contact with this individual, additional information would increase the value of the distributor somewhat.

The correct distributor for your car 300hp/327 is 1111194.

THanks for your help. My distributor doesn't have the band. I guess I'm out of luck. What I thought was a great find is probably not worth a thing. Oh well.

Not necessarily, Respo. You just need to get with your bud and get the info on the application. Those distributor bands are available in repro, and you can have them made with the correct distributor number and whatever date you want on them. As for as I know, they are undetectable from the originals, so that is not a problem for a restorer. A few years back, it seems like a used distributor used to bring about $100-$120. You'll just have to be able to convince the buyer that you know what it came off.
