duke i just found a drawing of the wiring of the complete HEI system including the coil and all. maybe if some EE on this site wants to look and see if it can be used in place of the TI black box i can scan it. i also have the drawing of the internal wiring of the TI black box if that will help.:chevy
Re: stock distributors to HEI electronics (clem zahrobsky)
I checked out the website, clem. Evidently, Duke's idea is workable. The only thing I was left wondering is if the HEI modules are only $35-40, then why does the guy on the website want $175 to install one? Seems a bit pricey to me! Maybe I should go into business too!
you not only need the module you need the star wheel(reluctor)and the magnetic pickup plus the labor to install this stuff. it takes some machine work and welding. like i posted before i used this type of distributor 20 years ago, this is not new. :chevy
My opinion is that it would depend on the judge. I would say it would probably not withstand close examination, either intentionally or unintentionally.
In other words, if they lifted the dwell adjustment door and observed that the points were missing, they would know. Typically, there would be no need to lift the door, but some years (70 for sure) have an RFI shield over the contact points and condensor, and the judges will check for the presence of that shield.

Here is a unit that I built about 10 years ago, as backup to my TI unit.
I did what Duke had mentioned, I never did try using it.
The housing is not exactly a TI housing, it is a large GM truck voltage regulator from the '60's.
I posted the pictures to show that it would be very easy to use this inside a TI unit.

Any opinions here about Pertronix electronic ignition conversions? I've been thinking about making changing. I've been considering Ignitor or Ignitor II. Any .02 will be appreciated.
