It's interesting to run computer simulations of engines that are identical except stroke - same heads, cam, compression, induction system, etc. They all make about the same peak power at about the same mean piston speed, so if a 302 SB peaks at 6500, the 383 peaks at about 5000. Both would achieve the same top speed assuming each was correctly geared for top speed, but the 383 would get there faster because it has more average power over the operating range.

Interesting point- so the increased CID isn't the key factor when all other things are equal. Does that therefore mean the mean piston speed the 'restricting factor' for making power? Would this be a factor of friction or ????
