Default "camel hump heads" - casting codes

Running into a little issue here and need some expert help. The NCRS judging manual (and most other resources) have the LT-1 heads as casting # 3927186. I have also seen :

3991492 350 LT1, 70, 64cc, straight plug, camel hump. These were never listed from 1970-72, so what gives?

Wireless,..checking my Vette Vues by M.F.Dobbins(3rd Edition), it lists both the 3927186 and a 3973414 head casting #'s for the 70 LT1 370 horse engines but the only 399XXX numbers are for the 71/72 454 engines,..no 399 prefix is shown for any 70 vette engine head casting numbers. There is no 3991492 head casting # as shown for any of the 68-72 vette engines.,..however there was a '72 454 engine 3999241 head casting # for the 270 H.P. You might try contacting NCRS directly and see where their reference for the '70 head casting #'s are derived from. Tom :chevy Save The Wave!!!

Thanks. I also found the 3973414 casting for the heads, but the judging manual shows this as 71 & 72 only. I also posted this in the C3 Forum and had a reply that the 3991492 was a replacement head. I will check with NCRS and post the reply when received.

A friend with an NCRS 5-star bowtie LT-1 original owner has the following:

Left cylinder head: 3927186 L 6 9 December 6, 1969
Right cylinder head: 3927186 A 6 0 January 6, 1970

But his is a fairly early car. Yours is much later. I don't know if that makes any difference. Feel free to look on the registry website and e-mail those with LT-1s near your VIN number. That's what the contact e-mail addresses are online for. :) ~Juliet
