I've noticed on what appear to be original Corvette Big Block Vin Pad examples that in the Tonowanda build date section - it seems to mix letters and numbers. For example, TO22I6 IP (Feb 21st 1966) where the 21st day second digit is the letter I - where you would think a numeral 1 would be. I also checked an original Chevelle 427 LS6 and it evidenced the same usage. Was this common or consistant and what was the reason to mix it up like this? The judging manual does not seem address this.
I am not sure what the 65-66 Referemce Manual indicates , but the 70-72 Reference Manual says "It is not uncommon to find the numeral 1 stamped as the letter I." Hope this helps.

On 63 and 64 pads, you'll COMMONLY see a strange looking "b" as the number "6". You'll also see the number "9" as the same strange "b" inverted. You'll also find the number "0" and the letter "O" used interchangeably. Experienced judges do know this. :) Chuck

I'll have to go look at some C2 pads. :yesnod: I haven't seen the B 6 9 thing in 68-72 but the 1/I and 0/O thing are really common on the sharks. :jester
