I'm an NCRS "guy" :) There is a special "shock gray" paint that many of the dealers sell. It's a gray color with a "blue-ish" tint.
That being said, I use just gray primer on my rear spring, and I've used a Rustoleum gray on my shocks. Chuck

On the Krylon you might be thinking about the semi-gloss black as quite a few people use that for the underside of the hood, engine compartment, etc. I haven't seen any Krylon for the grey though. Several mail order vendors will have the shock paint though such as Ecklers, Mid-America, Long Island Corvette Supply, etc.

I just got a can from Ecklers, the match to my 75 original shocks was not good. All gray , no blueish tint to it. I would try somwhere else if I were you.

Quanta makes the correct gray for the shocks.
When I took the original shocks off of my 72 two years ago and installed new Delcos, I used the Quanta shock gray for the new. PERFECT match.

I've seen people use Rustoleum #7786 Smoke Gray on the shocks. Looked great!

This is wha tI used. Looks pretty darn close. Probably could use a little more blue in it though, but darn close.

I used the paint from Long Island Corvette and it seemed to work well and appeared to be the correct color to me. Look in Section 45 in their on-line catalog.

I just painted my rear spring leaves, using something supplied by CC for that specific purpose. Wish I was home right now, I will amend this post later because it was merely a can of some well-known light grey primer with a CC sticker on it. I will say that they look real purdy right now, the leaves that is.
One other point - I saw up above the notion that the rear spring and the shocks were the same color - I don't really think so, but if the car is going to be judged, air this question out over where the judges live. I think the shock color had a blue-ish to acqua-ish tint. But I am far from an expert.

Spring is light gray, shocks are Delco gray-blue; Quanta has both.

How would you suggest painting new Bilsteins, just scuff them up and paint, or should you prime first?
How well will the grey paint hold up on the Bilsteins plastic boot/cover?
Thanks

The real spring paint is called "Ionoklad".
It was blue/gray and kinda thick. It was brushed on the lower/underside of the leaf, but not on the sides (and the top is left bare I think).
No Vette Vendor carries this any longer.
You can try here if you want..
