Re: NCRS Flight judging, and tips and pointers (killain)
How strict are the judges?
They're ALL nasty, mean spirited, fat old codgers who are there simply to make sure you regret ever showing up. Not.
The judges are not strict, the expectations of the judging manuals are. The goal is to have the car 100% the way it came off the assembly line, plus dealer prep. A good judging team will spot things that deviate from this, and explain to you what/where/why/who/how the deviations affect the score in the form of deductions. The total deductions govern what flight ribbon (if any) you will be awarded.
This makes the whole process very enjoyable for both parties and simply rectifying the deviations for the next judging opportunity. it's not a one time only deal.
If people don't enjoy judging or having their car judged, they're not doing it right.
Re: NCRS Flight judging, and tips and pointers (killain)
Amen, Mike. What to do? Go throught the manual and judge your car yourself :) You'll likely know what isn't correct and what is correct. Spend your time fixing little things that you know are incorrect.
Make sure EVERYTHING works. Operation check losses are huge compared to a point or two here and there for little things that "aren't correct". Make sure you have at least a DELCO battery. Standard deductions for non Delco batteries and non-OEM brand tires are HUGE too.
DON'T waste your time cleaning/waxing/polishing your car. It's isn't a "dirt hunt" or a cleanliness contest. Where are you having your car judged? Chuck
Re: NCRS Flight judging, and tips and pointers (killain)
Killain - I am a member of the host NCRS chapter. The judges will be very detailed oriented however typically polite. Try to relax and enjoy the day. Remember - this is a hobby.
I would be willing to bet that you will probably get to meet many of the folks who post on this forum.

Re: NCRS Flight judging, and tips and pointers (killain)
Killain, I just had my car judged for the 1st time last weekend at the Southern California Chapter meet in Santa Barbara California...I came to the event with anticipation of my car getting slaughtered with point deductions but I came away with a 3rd flight award and tons of notations on what needs to be fixed in order to secure a 2nd flight next time. Because the pressure was completely off due to my low expectations I think that allowed me to have a really good time.............So relax, let the experts lovingly tell you what is incorrect, and vow to do better the next time. But most of all enjoy driving your car.....Bill H.
Re: NCRS Flight judging, and tips and pointers (Juliet)

Re: NCRS Flight judging, and tips and pointers (killain)
For god sakes make sure the car is CLEAN, I had my '69 L71 judged here in SoCal and my biggest hit was how dirty my interior was, something like 81 points, so make sure your interior is well shampooed :yesnod:
On the up side I got a Top Flight my first time out
