When I purchased my 70 Roadster back in November, the previous owner gave me the ACC replacement carpet he had purchased but never installed.
When I pulled up the original carpet I found that the insulation with rubberized tar on top was toast so I purchased the correct replacement.
I also noticed that when I pulled up the old carpet there was no jute padding between the carpet and this underlayment. The ACC carpet has padding glued on to it. Did the original carpet have jute padding between the insulation (rubberized tar with insulation underlayment) and the carpet?
If not I can just pull the jute padding off of the ACC carpet.
If I recall correctly there was jute between the carpet and the rubberized padding. My original carpet is in the attic, I know there was just on at least some of it, if not all. I would leave it on in either case, a little extra insulation is nice, and judges won't pull up your carpet to check.

I am original owner of my 70 and it still has the original carpeting. The jute is attached to the rubber and the carpet lays freely on top of this. The jute/rubber insulation just lays against the fiberglass. I have read articles of C3's and other Corvettes having a commercial insulation with aluminum foil like topping applied from the footwells to the rear of the car for heat insulation and sound insulation. The meticulous installation was impressive in the articles. Corvettes in the summertime are hot without air-conditioning. Mine does have air-conditioning. The exhaust pipes run right along the transmission tunnel and induce a lot of heat. I would like to put this in my 70 when I get around to replacing the carpet just for the better heat and sound insulation.
