Default NCRS Corvette Specifications Guide (Pocket Guide)

Has anyone else found descrepancies in casting numbers and numbers represnted in the http://www.ncrs.org/images/merchandi...s/Psg53-67.GIF Pocket Guides?

I was trying to verify some numbers on a '67 BB and the numbers in the NCRS Pocket Guide were not consistent with other books such as the NCRS judging manual, the Corvette "Black Book", and Chevy By The Numbers - with all three of them at least being consistent.

Can someone please give me thier experiences with this book so I know what to think, before I ask NCRS for my money back.

Which specific discrepancies did you find? As it says on the first page, errors will occur, and should be reported to Roy Sinor for review and possible revision in the next issue. Were you using the latest 2004 version of the Pocket Guide and the latest 4th Edition (red cover) of the '67 Judging Guide? In any event, the JG information supercedes info in the Pocket Guide.

I found the descrapanices looking at three different 'original' big block cars - a 390, 400, and a 435. Found descrepancies in numbers on heads, distributor, and more - even found what I think to be a descrepancy on an interior color code combination. There was another person with me when we were looking things up and we both were dumbfounded.

I know the word original isnt worth the paper these books are written on, but two of the three cars being compared were sold recently out of the Chris Piscitello Collection of Dallas, Texas -- both 390 and 400 roadsters which are original down to the nitty gritty and the 400 car being a collectable that was in storage for at least 28 years prior to being purchased by Chris.

I am going to forget the color issue beacuse one of the 435's I have looked at is a repaint and it may have been that one we were looking at.

I also need to make sure that I am not seeing descrepancies in early production and late production numbers for 1967 (as we all know there are.) What I do know for sure is that HEADS in the pocket guide have no indication of early and late numbers and I know there are for heads.

I will make it a point to get out all my books again soon and get some hard facts together for all.

In the meantime, would love to hear if anyone eles has had a similar issue???

The latest edition of the Spec Guide doesn't reflect all the information that's shown in the JG; it doesn't show the 291 head for late small-blocks, and doesn't show the 702, 215, and 390 heads for L36/L68, and doesn't show the 858 and 840 heads for the L71. I'll shoot a note to Roy to correct it for the next edition of the Spec Guide.
