Was looking through my files last night and ran across my tank sticker that I removed from my '68 during its restoration. Most of the sticker is illegible but I kept it anyway just in case some future "document restorer" could possibly do more with it than I can hope to. However, one of the items is clearly legible which is the dealer code. So... Is there any reference that is currently available that I could use to look up the dealer that belongs to this code?
I've only gotten two owners back before me on my car's history and am still looking for that elusive "original owner" 's name and where the car first was registered. I don't think that I have to look much further back as the previous owner's previous owner bought the car in the early '70's.
If you're an NCRS member and have your tank sticker (Corvette Order Copy) and are the current owner of the car, Al Grenning can decode your dealer/zone number; his database is much more comprehensive than the ones available on the net. Shoot a note to ALGRENNING@aol.com.
Checked out the NCRS site for my zone/dealer number 15487 and didn't find anything. However, dealer codes 486 and 488 are owned by David and Scott Penske, brothers of Roger. Both are located in SE PA and are still in operation.
My suspicion is that 487 is (was) a Penske dealership too. Roger lives here in SE Michigan since early 70's but I'm not aware of any dealerships of his here (at least with his name attached). Perhaps he sold one back East before relocating? I guess I'll get a note off to Al to confirm or deny my suspicions. Thanks!
