Wow first post to the forum and you bash a well know local vendor. I call There are two sides to every story. You side is very vague. I know of several instances where problems surfaced and they did all they could to make it right. Please tell the whole story and lets see if we can get you some help. Also good job digging up a year old thread.
This Local Vendor...in my opinion... is WAY OVER PRICED at every level. Check for yourself. Their overhead is HUGE and must charge premium prices to stay in business.

We all have our opinoins. I myself order all my parts from John and pay the same prices as in the catalogues or less - shipping. John also has been doing this long enough to know which parts from certain vendors are junk and which are not. He is a valuable local asset for a classic Vette owner. As far as sales go last summer I had a friend from out of country asking about a classic Vette for his collection. After getting the run around from another local vette dealer and looking at a driver advertised as a NCRS car at a non vette dealer we found just the car he was looking for @ D & M. D & M was very helpful with all the prepurchase inspections and requests for info. The deal was negotiated for below market value for the car and a deal was made. As with any car purchase walking in the door with no info puts the buyer at a disadvantage. Research is your best friend in a car purchase be it a daily driver or a classic.
My father had some body work done at D&M Corvette the quality was awful the paint did not match. My father is 67 years old and had gone to the service mechanic for over 9 years at D&M with no issues...when this issue came up they left my father high and dry..they would not even return our phone calls..the situation was never fixed..we are left with the stain of poor workmanship on our car. If they treat a customer who had gone there for 9 yrs this way and who is 67 years old..I think this tells you what your dealing with...just hope everything goes right and you have zero issues...if you do have an issue I can say we were treated awful:nono ::no no:: nono::ack ::
This is my response to Matthew and his 1976 Corvette. I invite anyone who is interested in the facts to stop by my shop and look at the insurance estimate on this repair. I will also show you the condition of the old bumper cover on Matthew's car.
I challenge Matthew to publish his full name, address and phone number in this forum. Then he can invite anyone interested in the facts to look at his car. You can look at our work and compare it to the condition of the rest of the car.
I asked the insurance company to reinspect this car and evaluate our workmansip. Matthew refused the reinspection.

Pete Kramer,
Just as I said in my post there are always two sides to every story. You can please some of the people some of the time not all of the people all of the time. Those of us with classic vettes know who the go to guys are in the area. Looks like Matt has not been back since digging up a old thread and trashing D & M. I know I will be back to the parts dept without hesitation. I have heard many great things about your shop and seen your work, it speak's for itself.
Totally agree with you but at the same time the "corvette specialists" should have been honest about the car they were selling.
I visited them once and right away got a bad vibe from the people and walked out.
Strange but true... I went in there the summer of '07 and saw a beatiful red 2000 coupe. I asked the guy if I could drive it and he said the salesman was not in today (Wednesday) and I would have to come back the next day. ??? Just felt kinda wierd...I left and found a car elsewhere.
It's funny, everytime I have stopped in at D&M, no one talks to me.
Which is fine. I'm just looking anyways....
If you really want to be ignored try the D&M on North Avenue (different company). You would think I was a homeless guy the few times I went in there. Hello.... Helloooooo Sorry to bother you... I don't like pushy salespeople but I'm should at least be considered a prospect if I got out my car.

I know, ironic -eh?
We complain about being hounded by sales people and we complain about not being hounded by sales people.

somethin fishy here...thread started over a year ago and now surfaces lots of replies from folks who are "jr" members and we've never seen before. I am not taking anyone side... just an "odd" thread to be lurking in over a year old
I am happy to report on 10/15/08 That D&M Corvette was able to correct the issue below... therefore I retract my comments below.

I stopped in there on two different occasions before I bought my first Corvette. I was well-dressed, driving a nice car, and was giving some of their inventory a very close look. Noone approached me. There were several people working there; most of them appeared busy, but there were three gentlemen sitting around a desk having a bull session, and I had to interrupt them to ask a few questions. They didn't ask me my name, what I was looking for, or give me a smile. I must have made a face when they told me the prices of the cars I asked about, because they quickly went back to their bull session.
I wasn't just killing time; I was actively looking for a C2 - C3 convertible! I bought one within a month of my last visit to D&M.
I don't know anything about their service department. The point of my post is, I never will. After the way I was treated when I went to the showroom, I would never bring my car to them for service (on which, by the way, I have spent well over $1k since I bought the car).
They must be doing something right, they're still in business, but I won't be going back there--especially after spending time on this forum. Corvette folk don't act that way!
D and M corvette was able to correct the error. I retract my statement below

Thay are absolutely the worst Dealer i have seen. I have been in there at least 4 different times, and have been treated exactly the same. And i pulled up in my 02-Z which was mint.Felt like i had two heads or something.
I am happy to report that D&M CORVETTE agreed to fix PETE'S ERROR to my car. Therefore I retract the below (updated 10/16/08) Very unfortunate situation that I hope no one else has to experience

I have a friend who was looking for a '63/'67 vert, several years ago. He is a cool guy but hardly mechanical. Thank goodness he asked for my advice when he considdered buying. He had been to D&M and was interested in a particular '67. He asked my opinion. I talked to the D&M salesman and was assured that the car had been thoroughly inspected and everything was up to snuff.
When I drove the car it would almost turn sideways when punched in second gear. All the rubber bushings were used up. The vent window handle was missing on the drivers side and the passenger side vent window wouldn't open. The hand brake wouldn't hold the car on a slope and the sinchro's were either bad or missing on 3 and 4.
The car pulled badly to the left when you took your hands off the wheel.
Thank goodness He asked for help. He was so excited about the car he missed all the clues. Suffice it to say.... He didn't buy the car.
That's the only time I have had contact with D&M...
Not surprised by the bad experiences at D&M Corvette. I bought a 61' Convertible out of Indiana, and needed a local shop. Their facility was impressive, and they've been there forever. I was naive, and they took advantage.
I couldn't prove it, but they took original parts off of my car and replaced them with aftermarket. They overcharged for all services vs. the quote, and I left there without paying my bill. I settled with them, and still gave them too much money.
I took my car to Bill Kay Chevrolet who had a Corvette department in their service dept. I was happy with the quality, but eventually sold the car.
Interesting thread, Glad to see the OP got his problem solved and posted an update. Also interesting, others are now posting that have had what seems to be very negative experiences from D&M.

I had the same experience. I was at a NCRS meet with my 67 and had my car scored. Later that year, I needed some work done, and since I was new to the area, and D&M looked impressive, I brought it there. Same feeling as to how they treat you as mentioned here several times. Like they are doing you a great favor by letting you in the door.
The work was OK, but was expensive. A few months later, I was at another NCRS event, and parts that I was previously told were original were now listed as aftermarket. Now, I can't prove that D&M removed them, but I'm not taking the chance anymore.
My only experience with D&M is as a potential customer.
I went to look at a red 66 327/300 convertible last spring, and the sales guy said the price was $69,900. This was at most a $50,000 car on a good day. I remarked that the price was a little high, and he seemed to take offense and challenged me to find another car like it. He then pointed to a blue 65 convertible, which he said had the wrong motor and a one-piece front-end, and claimed he had sold it for $65,000. This was a $35,000 car at best. Just a typical used car salesman giving a line of bull.
But on a more sinister note, I met a guy with an original 67 427/400 coupe at a show in Elmhurst, who said he brought his car in for service at D&M, and they stole his original shifter and replaced it with a repop. Like AutobahnRacer above, he could not prove it. But I think all Corvette owners should do their homework before buying/servicing their Vette. I think it is very telling, that D&M is not amongst the recommended Corvette dealers in any of the Corvette magazines I read.
