pssttttt.... You don't have to resize pics on this forum.. Just go to your CP and upload the pic and it automatically does it for you..

Go to your control panel, choose custom avatar, browse for any picture file on your pc you want, and viola - it will be your new avatar, no matter what the size. If it was too big, the forum automatically shrinks it down to size.

Irfanview Instructions:
  1. Open the file you want to make into an avatar.
  2. File, Save As to a new name to avoid damaging the original. Use JPG format, quality 90.
  3. Image, Resize/Resample to 150 pixels on the long side. Preserve Aspect Ratio should be checked, and I use the Lanczos resample filter.
  4. File, Save, but do not exit.
  5. Check the file size on disk to see if it's under the 29.3kb limit. If it is, you're done and can exit Irfanview and then upload the photo as an avatar. Otherwise, do File, Save and lower the quality by 10. Repeat this step until the file is small enough to use as an avatar.

Irfanview is what I use. I can also crop with it to make the pic more of what I want by clicking in the pic and dragging my mouse, then Edit/Crop.
